Activities: Remember in prayer the 12 young people and adults working this week with the St. Bernard Project, including Pastor Hans Dahl. They return on Saturday, July 31. BAOBAB BLAST Vacation Bible School. Aug. 9—13; 9:00 – 11:30 am for Children, Age 3 — Grade 5. $10 per child. Register NOW at www.gachurch.org (click on Bud the Elephant); paper forms available at the Welcome Desk. NOTE: Registration is limited for preschool-age children. Volunteer for Baobab Blast! Artists and decorators – Create background, settings, props, posters before VBS begins. Youth will meet on July 28, 10 am – 3 pm to work on decorations. During the week of VBS: Storytellers (Mon & Fri), Small Group Leaders – Jr & Sr High youth (Mon – Fri), Karibu Kitchen Snack Hosts (Thurs & Fri), Kalahari Crafts co-leader, Grassland Games co-leaders (Mon – Tue – Fri), School Supplies Drive Assistant. Contact Sherrie Nordquist in the church office to volunteer your time. Requested Donations for VBS! Pick up a list of our requests at the Welcome Desk today! African or Animal print fabrics, Stuffed Animals (Zebra, monkey, giraffe, meerkat, elephant), Woven baskets, Photos or art of African scenes, Brown grocery bags or shipping paper, Brown Craft Paper, Large cardboard boxes (dishwasher or dryer size),Tissue Paper, Crepe Paper, Streamer Rolls, Wire, Twine, Cable Ties, Ziploc bags (gallon or quart size), Bamboo sticks, Painters Tape, TP or Paper Towel Tubes, 25 Wire Hangers, Paper Plates, Tongue depressors, Band-Aids, Carpet Squares, Bubble wands. Wednesday, August 11; 6:00 — 8:00 pm To raise money for and awareness about the need for clean water in Africa. Coincides with our Baobab Blast Vacation Bible School program. For all ages! Wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a dish to share—and a bucket to carry water in your hands or on your head from Phalen Park. Minimum contribution: $5/person or $10/household. Hayor Bibimma Dance Company – Free VBS Event for all ages. Thursday, August 12 11:30 am Pizza lunch [free], 12:15 pm African Drum & Dance program. Hayor Bibimma is a Twin Cities-based West African dance group — African drumming, dance & storytelling. More info in the August newsletter. Come along on our African Safari! The Peterson Library invites you on an African Safari in celebration of our 50th Anniversary! ALL ages are welcome, including teens and adults. Each time you read a book or view a DVD or listen to a CD, choose a wild animal from the “Africa” Basket in the Library and fill out the requested information. Drop the wild animal into the “Safari” Basket and watch as the African countryside fills with wild animals. Our 50th Anniversary festivities in October will include prizes awarded in age categories from preschool to adult! Farmers Market at GA. What is growing in your garden? Is there more in your garden than you can eat?Tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, the abundance from your garden can help support the Companion Village Project (CVP) at Kiponzelo, our sister congregation in Tanzania. The Global Mission Committee will sponsor a farmers market at GA on Sundays starting August 15. Tables will be set up in a corner of the gathering area and anyone can bring food or flowers for others to purchase. No set price for items. Pay what you can or feel is fair and all money will go to support the CVP. We have pledged $2000 for three years to Kiponzelo CVP. To teach ways to grow more food for their families. State Fair Park & Ride; August 26 — September 6 We need your help in the parking lot to greet bus riders to the Fair. Bring family, a friend, a neighbor for a fun hospitality opportunity! Look for the sign up book at the Welcome Center! Sign up for 4-hour shifts— 8 am—Noon Noon—4 pm 8 pm—Midnight
